The diversity of the New York industry is largely grounded in the diversity of our climates and the wide variance in the age of our vineyards and wineries. Older wineries and vineyards tend to have a broader mix of native, hybird, and vinifera grapes, while many of the newer wineries tend to focus almost exclusively on vinifera varieties.
While all four main regions - Lake Erie, Finger Lakes, Hudson River and Long Island - are generally recognized as Cool Climate regions, there is a significant difference in the conditions from one region to another. Details on individual regions can be found at New York Wine Country
