New York’s Ag Profile– Distinctive and Impressive
New York is a large and physically diverse state when it comes to land type and use. The variety of agricultural products grown and produced on approximately 7.8 million acres (25 percent of New York State's land area) is partially due to the diversity of the land. Add to that the lakes and oceans that produce fresh fish and other seafood and the forestland, for a diverse listing of forest products, and you wonder that there is any room for all the people! But everyone knows that it is the human component that is key to everything working. The 38,000 farmers of New York need markets and the people of New York need the farmers, watermen, fishermen, and foresters to provide the commodities needed for every day life.
